For this project I was tasked with creating an animal mark using only one shape.
To begin this project I started with research of my animal. The animal I chose was the skunk. This research helped me understand the tangible and intangible traits of the animal.
I then began doing basic sketches to decide on the best way to portray the skunks form.
I decided that the forms like the first and second images, where the skunk is very passive and his main features are present, would be the best. I then began to focus in my sketches using only shapes, specifically circles.
I then moved to Illustrator to create digital iterations. I started with a replication of my sketches and then tried to use less shapes to create a more fluid form. I've highlighted the changes made in each iteration.
This is my final mark and the structure of the form. The main things that I wanted to highlight about the skunk is the white stripe along their head and back, their short ears and muzzle, and their relaxed nature. These physical features are all highlighted in the form and using only circles helps show their relaxed nature.
